[Beowulf] Fancy NAS systems in HPC

Just to throw a data point in here:

We are big users of ZFS in HPC, but we (or at least I) don't call it NAS because it's more integrated with our HPC infrastructure than just a device on the network.  A part of this means we use ZFS on Linux, not ZFS on Solaris, to unify our management since virtually all HPC runs on Linux these days.  It also means that providing a separate NAS API/UI for management would actually complicate things, not simplify them, in the greater context of how our HPC is managed.

I'd have loved a nice API and UI for networked storage at my last job, but it would have been used as a more traditional NAS device--complementary to lab-scale HPC, sure, but not really an integrated part of it.
