This fixes a bug in the statistics report (transmit byte count) and
changes the behavior to set the station address correctly with the new
Kendin version of the chip.

Write the station address as 16 bit words to handle Kendin chip change
(w/ Philippe De Muyter).

Read the station address register to decide if the chip is present instead
of clearing part of the Tx octet count.

More explicit use of PKT_BUF_SZ as a minimum value.
Noted that full_duplex[] is depricated.
Use a full integer for np->default port.
