compiling in eepro v1.05 driver

Hi,

I'm running Red Hat 5.2 and I want to compile in the eepro driver. I did
the usual:
 
make config
make dep
make clean
make zImage
"added the new image to lilo.conf and run lilio"

The kernel never started so I had to revert back to the previous kernel.
All I get is loading linux... and the system hangs.

I did not run "make modules" and "make modules_install" because I
configured the eepro driver as a compiled in feature instead of adding
it as a module. 

Any hints of what I should try next?
