Donald, et al:
freshly installed RedHat 6.1 on a few machines.
machines are 440BX chipset (SMP motherboard, single Pentium III @ 600MHz),
256M ram.
kernel is stock 2.2.13 which comes with eepro100 v1.06 driver.
upon some degree of 'heavy receiving' of traffic, the eepro100 card dies
with the following error:
"kernel: eth0: Transmit timed out: status 0050 0080 at 2838/2852
command 000c0000"
"kernel: eth0: Trying to restart the transmitter..."
the same error is then repeated at regular intervals over and over.
the NIC never recovers,
the actual card is a genuine intel PRO/100+ PCI Mgmt Adapter based on the
i82559. (intel part # 721383-006).
it is connected to a 10/100 port on a 48-port 10/100 module on a Cisco 4003
gigabitethernet switch.
card is reported by kernel as:
eth0: Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 at 0xef00, 00:90:27:42:71:F7. IRQ 5/
Receiver lock-up bug exists -- enabling work-around.
Board assembly 721383-006, Physical connectors present: RJ45
Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1.
General self-test: passed.
Serial sub-system self-test: passed.
Internal registers self-test: passed.
ROM checksum self-test: passed (0x04f4518b).
questions --
- will upgrading to v1.091 of the driver resolve this?, or
- is it something else. ie. change of the csr0 parameter, something else ..?
the odd thing is that the same machine, but employed in a slightly
different role ('network source' of traffic rather than 'network sink' of
traffic) works just fine - with no-lockups.
any and all help appreciated.
cheers,
lincoln.
