2.2 / 2.3 versions

Hi,

last week one of our machines was down for a while because of the now
famous "Trying to restart the transmitter" errors... since we couldn't
access the machine for a couple of days, it went out of memory so we could
only do a hard-reboot :(
Anyway i want to try to latest version of the driver, but i'm using kernel
2.2.12 and the 8/7/99 1.09l version made things even worse (network stopped
responding every few seconds)... i know there's a newer version of the driver,
but it looks like a 2.3-kernel version... is it possible to use this one in
2.2.12?

i'm seriously considering kicking these intel cards out of the door... we also
have a NT machine with the same Intel card, and once in a while it confuses
a port on a 3COM switch and the only way to recover is to reset the port on
the switch.
