walking around 'transmit timed out' ?

Hi,
I met 'Transmit timed out' messages as following.

Jan 14 19:21:13 toitoi kernel: eth0: Transmit timed out: status 0050
0070 at 6237/6249 command 000c0000.
Jan 14 19:21:13 toitoi kernel: eth0: Trying to restart the
transmitter...

Test environment
Linux: TurboLinux server 6.0 (kernel 2.2.13 with CONFIG_SMP switch
'n')
eepro100.c: ver 1.09l
CPU: Celeron 466MHz (1CPU)
Memory: 128MB
LAN adapter: Ether Express Pro 100


I tried test on the kernel with CONFIG_SMP switch 'y' (though my PC is
single processer), then 'Transmit timed out' messages did not
appeared.

Could anyone who met 'Transmit timed out' try this?
