Pro100+ Management adapter detection problem

I am using the Pro100+ Management adapter with the eepro100 module from the
SuSE 6.3 distribution which is the newest version of the module available.
After installation of the module is see an entry in the /etc/modules.conf
which looks OK.

The problem is that the card isn't detected by the module at startup. I see
no messages in /var/log/messages. The card in installed in an Intel SE440BX
motherboard with no other PCI cards. PnP OS is set to No in the BIOS. Power
Management is disabled. I know the card is OK.

What could be wrong ?
