This could be an APIC problem, not a driver problem.  Under Linux APICs
sometimes just forget how to generate interrupts.

Does an rmmod/insmod restore operation?  If not, suspect the APIC.

If you're running 2.2, try booting with the `noapic' option. If the
problem goes away, suspect the APIC.
