multicast issue on eepro100

I have a linux box functioning as a proxy/cache using Squid.  I us ip_fwd to 
route all non-web traffic past the box.  I get the infamous Transmit error 
now and then.

Do I need multicast at all?

Is it enough to limit multicast to 3?

I can disable it in ifconfig?  Does this help me?

Should I recompile without multicast?

I am using 1.2l eepro100.o on 2.2.5-22
