My first encounter with this problem was prior to May 29, 1999.
What I noticed at the time is that the problem ONLY seemed to affect
on-the-motherboard eepro100 chips (as on the Intel "nitelite" board, the
NL440BX iirc), not older (made prior to 1998) eepro100 cards.
Unfortunantly, I don't recall specific chip versions/numbers.
I resolved the problem by upgrading the driver on the 2.0.x kernels at the
time, but the problem came back.
The whole problem with the eepro100 is that any attempt to determine if a
solution fixed the transmit timed out errors becomes a science experiment
with multiple variables.
