You should have a look using the patches at 
ftp://robur.slu.se:/pub/Linux/net-development/NAPI/eepro100

with a linux kernel 2.4.20 kernel. They may at least serve as a good
starting point.  2.4.20 implemented polling in a generic way for any net
device that chooses to support it.
