Ok, I did all of this, but now I am having a new problem
I did the netdrivers install that you suggested and changed the. It was running real good for a while.
However it appears to degrade over time.
Some weird messages in /var/log/messages about some command not being
accepted.

Don't know if this is related to the ethernet drivers or not although some
of the eepro100 archives show this as a problem. But that was back in
October 2001.
Pings are currently running at around 400 ms, now 100 ms. Longer than
after I rebooted the machine.
Any more ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
