This is almost certainly a routing problem. When you can transfer
packets without errors (checking /proc/net/dev for the counts), but
communication does not occur, it's likely someone with the wrong IP
addresses, netmask or route.

Well, that might change. My new driver versions are not going into the
kernel. Instead updates from here and there are being added to the old
drivers. As with the Tulip driver, it's too difficult to keep track of the
random difference between "v0.89H" in 2.2.5 vs. "v0.89H" in 2.2.10.
The list archive question has already been answered. If new rtl8139 support
pages are added to www.scyld.com, we will add a search facility.
