system lockup with RTL8139

Hi

I tried the new driver for RTL8139 on my system. The modules are getting
loaded fine. But the system is not connected to the network. The following
message is getting printed out repeatedly

eth0: Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000 media 0c.

I am using the kernel 2.0.36. Is this a configuration problem or is the
driver not meant for this kernel version?
