Howdy,

New subscriber. I'm setting up a home network and have had need to
make use of your latest driver for an RTL8139C (DL10038C) on a D-Link
DFE-538TX/R. Thankyou.

I know these Realtek chips seem to be proliferating like rabbits, and
that keeping track of the vendors and their model numbers is an
exercise in rewardless frustration, but I would like to suggest that
in future some comment be made regarding the relationship between the
realtek driver and the chips on which it has been tested. Leave it to
the ownner to figure out which chip he has.

To my very limited knowledge there are at least 5 different chips now:
RTL8129, RTL8139, RTL8139A, RTL8139B, & RTL8139C. It would be a big
help to know what works with what. I don't think a couple of lines on
the web page would be a lot of trouble.

The linux driver that comes with the D-Link adapters is v.1.08 -
06/25/99. When I asked them for an update they sent it to me again. I
sent them back a copy of v.1.13 - 01/09/01 and your url. Hopefully
they will be in touch if only to lessen the burden on their tech
support people.
