[realtek] 8139too and rtl8139C Too! Also! Including! ARGH!

I haven't seen anything relating to my problem in any of the list archives.
I Have seen several questions about this problem, but no answers.  That I
why I haven't yet fixed my problem.

At this point, I have given up on the card.  I have tried rebooting the
computer with no options given to the 8139too driver. I see the same
problem.  On boot, I get the message that its autonegotiated half-duplex.
That's fine, I guess, but I don't understand why it wants to do half-duplex
if the identical card installed on a windows 2000 machine autonegitiates to
full duplex with an identical connection to the same 10/100 switch.

The primary problem, or at least symptom, persists:  I am getting about 5 to
10 percent of the packets in error.  I am very sure that its not a cabling
problem for two reasons.  1) I get the same problem with different cables.
and 2) the cable run is only 4 feet (its a patch cord)

What is the next step in my attempt to get this card to work?
