Linux tulip driver and Linksys EtherFast LNE100TX

I recently replaced my old NE2000 card with this new PCI card, but I'm
having problems getting to work.  I'm using a 2.2.6 kernel and the
included 0.89 driver didn't recognize the card.  I copied over 0.91 and
now it recognizes it:

But it still doesn't work at all.  When it try to do a ping, I get:

eth0: Transmit timed out, status e2460000, CSR12 40a1d0cc, resetting...

Is this hardware too new?  I haven't tried setting up the card in
Windows, but I ran the included diagnostic program so I think the card
is working.
