Network locks due to "Too much work during interrupt"

Hi,

I posted a question about my networking locking up randomly two days ago.
Since then I found out two thing:
1) my module param debug=3 didn't work because the driver wasn't compiled as
a module.
2) before the lockup I get a couple of messages "Too much work during an
interrupt" withing a minute.

My new question:
- can packet drop be caused by this error?
- can this be considered a bug in the driver or can this be caused by some
client which locks the system due to dropped packages?
- what should I alter in the source to prevent this problem? (I know Perl,
assembly and Delphi/Pascal but haven't touched C-code yet)
