Got an HP machine?  I had the same problem.  It turns out that when
newer BIOS menus ask you if you want WIN95/98/DOS/Other or some similar
question, you HAVE to tell it Other.  That turns off Plug n Pray.  The
older ones were more lucid, and they explicitly told you PnP
enable/disable.  Try that.
