My ethernet card, a Linksys 100TX (Using PLIP-II, Lite-On LC82C115)
hangs under load, and often corrupts data when receiving at speeds
greater than 100kB/sec or so. I would use a different card, but my
cablemodem ISP apparently locks users to a specific MAC address
now. :( (Considering DHCP works for one card but is ignored by the
other, despite the cablemodem send and receive LEDs lighting when the
DHCP request is issued, indicating that the cablemodem and nic are
operation)
An error message is repeatedly printed to the console:
eth0: Transmit timed out, status e4660000, CSR12 000050ca,
resetting...
I'm running 2.2.16
I can work around the former problem by an ifdown;ifup; combination,
but the only way I can circumvent around the latter is by downloading
from some European, Australian, or Asian site at 25kB/sec. (I've
peaked at 500kB/sec).
Also, although I can't solve the problem, I can adjust the situation
somewhat. If I set the various PCI waitstates in my BIOS to 0 (no
wait), then the card hangs under very light load. If I disable
everything, it takes a somewhat heavier load to knock it out.
I thought that knock-off Tulip implementation like PLIP were supported
in versions 0.91 and later of tulip.c? I have 0.91g.
Various system files follow.
