Very slow network...

I recenetly got the Netgear network in the box kit and tried to connect
two of my linux computers. One is a PIII 500 Mhz Dell computer and the
other is a old 100Mhz Cyrix 6x86 Acer Aspire. Both in Windows and Linux,
the network is very slow when I do a FTP. The telnet and ping works
fine.
The card seems have  FA310TX.
Both the network card uses IRQ 9.
In the Dell computer, this IRQ is shared by some more cards... Is that
the problem?
or is that the Acer computer is very slow and I shoud  change the
network to work at 10Mbs.

First I tried the LinkSys kit, I had the same problem.
