Problem Setting the Media type.

Hi,
   I have 2 PC's running Linux 2.2.12. One is a old 100Mhz Acer
Aspire( Cyrix 6x86) and the other is a 500Mhz Pentium III Dell
Dimension. I recently bought the Netgear Network in Box kit to connect
them. It came with 2 Netgear FA310TX 100/10 Ethernet PCI card and a
Netgear Duel Speed(10/ 100) 4 Port Hub (Model DS 104).

For some reason which I still couldn't figure out, It doesn't do big
file transfers at 100Mbs. This happens both in Window98 (both system)
and in Linux.  I changed the media type in the Windows98 to 10Mbs Half
Duplex in both system and it was working fine (both system on
window98)...
  Now in the Linux, when I run at 100Mbs (I used no paramters), The
network is very slow and when I ping, I get messages like this

   Then I tried to switch the Media type in the conf.modules file. This
is how I have it now.

 When I boot my system the system comes up with these messages in
/var/log/messages

The light in the Hub indicates that the computer is using 100Mbs.
 when I run tulip-diag  the messages are

 Port selection is MII, half-duplex.
 Transmit stopped, Receive stopped, half-duplex.
  The Rx process state is 'Stopped'.
  The Tx process state is 'Stopped'.
  The transmit threshold is 128.

When I unplug the patch cable from the hub and again connect it back.
The hub indicates that the speed is 10Mbs.
When I boot Windows, Initially when the system comes up the hub light
indicate that it is at 100Mbs, but latter it switches to show the 10Mbs,
So I am confident, it is not a problem with the hub.
