[tulip-bug] phantom ethernet devices

What's with the phantom ethernet devices? The stock kernel probe
(2.038, 2.2.17, and 2.2.18pre23) only detects the one installed tulip
interface (KNE100 w/i21143), pci-scan.o detects eth0-eth7 when compiled
into 2.2.18pre23.

(I saw a report of this on linux-net a few months back, but I don't
recall seeing an answer.)
