on May 11 2002, Greg Wooledge reported that the tulip driver would stop
responding under high NFS loads but recover if the interface was shutdown and
the module reloaded. the problem went away for him when he upgraded to kernel
2.2.21 on his nfs client machine in July...

i've experienced the problem with a conexant ethernet/modem notebook module
with both mandrake's 8.2 and redhat's 7.3 kernels from the 2.4 series.

compiled for kernel 2.4.18-10 the init messages report

i'm operating away from the network on which this machine generally locks up
for me so i can't tulip-diag the problem at the moment, but i'll capture the
controller state the next time it locks up.
