OK, the transceiver thinks it is in full duplex mode, but...

...part the MAC think the chip should be reporting "no carrier". In
full duplex mode the carrier state should be ignored.
In this case only the 'ifconfig' output is wrong. (Very annoying, but
mostly harmless.) I'll see if I can track down a fix.
A similar thing happens with the Conexant chip, but I suspect the
problem sources are unrelated.
