Yes, very likely. At most its a new table entry.

The '980 cards use the same chip as the 3c905 cards, but come with an
enhanced set of drivers for Windows. While I'm certain that 3Com doesn't
mind you spending extra, you won't see better performance in Linux.
Don't confuse the '980 with the 3c985 Gigabit card, which looks remarkably
like an Alteon Tigon / AceNIC.
