Hi all. I sent a message last week regarding problems I was having with
the following message appearing in my logs for a 3c905C card connected to
a 'dumb switch':

eth1: Transmit error, Tx status register 82.

I've tried other 3c905C cards and they do the same. This is a firewall
with three interfaces -- the other two interfaces uses crossover cables.

I accidentally deleted the response I wanted to respond to. Someone had
mentioned that he had the same card, and had been operating fine for quite
some time. What else could be the problem? I've made sure that there is
no IRQ sharing on the box, replaced the motherboard, etc. What does the
message really mean? How can I go about troubleshooting it? I have
another identical switch that I've tried, and it does the same. Could it
be that it's just too cheap of a switch?

Here's the information from the card:

eth1: 3Com 3c905C Tornado at 0xe400, 00:50:04:bf:dd:f1, IRQ 10
  8K byte-wide RAM 5:3 Rx:Tx split, autoselect/Autonegotiate interface.
MII transceiver found at address 24, status 782d.
Enabling bus-master transmits and whole-frame receives.

I just ordered three more of these cards before I was aware of this
problem.. :(
Thanks,
Dave
