Please try to run 'mii-diag -p 24' in these cases and teel us if it works.

I can't perform the ping right now as the switch and the computers are
both loaded. But I have done this in the past (sometimes up to 1 day for
testing) and I'm sure that I didn't get lost packets.

Output from 'mii-diag -v':

mii-diag.c:v2.00 4/19/2000 Donald Becker (becker@scyld.com)
http://www.scyld.com/diag/index.html Using the default interface 'eth0'.
 MII PHY #24 transceiver registers:
   3000 782d 0040 6176 05e1 41e1 0003 0000
   0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000

   003f 853e 0f00 ff40 002f 0000 80a0 000b.
Basic mode control register 0x3000: Auto-negotiation enabled.
You have link beat, and everything is working OK.
This transceiver is capable of 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx 10baseT-FD
10baseT.
Able to perform Auto-negotiation, negotiation complete.
 Your link partner advertised 41e1: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx 10baseT-FD 10baseT.

As you can see, my switch doesn't advertise flow-control (41e1 instead
of 45e1).
