I think I should have sent somemore details in my first post, so I've
attached lspci and mii-tool output.

It's ~20 miles away, I could but not today. I thought cabling either
worked or didn't, this cable has been with this box running 2.4.14 for
about 2 months with no nic problems (although it did lock up frequently
due to a bad hard disk: IBM DTLA series, blegh, replaced). This nic run
for many hours without problems, however when this problem came up the
time before last, I drove down to the co-lo and reconnected the cabling
on both the switch (different ports) and nic ends (switch shows good
connection @100mb FD). I would think this would cause some reload in the
driver, but only a reboot fixes this ( I havent tried ifup, only because
for some reason or I seem to never have an ssh running when it happens,
or have tried to run something sitting under /usr and locked the terminal).
Anyhow I've got a terminal connected from home and work so I'll try to
do an ifdown > rmmod > isnsmod > ifup when it happens again.
