a couple of questions

We just brought up a few machines and a switch using the GNIC-II cards.
At first, I was using Don's driver from cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov (v0.11) but I
had some serious trouble with one of the machines spewing this message:

So... off to the mailing list I went...  Got Eric's driver (v0.14) and
this problem seems to have cleared up, but ping latency has gone up?  I
know that ping is not the worlds best latency measure, but going from 0.1
to 0.3 ms consistently?  of course, ttcp  now reports 38104 KB/s instead
of ~35000 KB/s...  

So... the questions are:

1) Which driver should be "better"?
2) Is there some user parameter that I should attempt to tweak to improve
the latency issue? (haven't really looked through the source yet)
3) Is anyone actively supporting/improving this driver, or has it sort of
fallen by the wayside since Alcatel canned the card?

Oh, almost forgot... machine configuration:

Dual PIII 450 MHz
Matrox G200
3Com 3C905B
256 MB Memory
10 GB EIDE disk
